Shirley has been carving since 1983, and has worked with master carvers Murphy Stanley Sr. and Virgil Oliver Stanley. She also assisted in the carving of the Git'Kaast totem pole with Murphy Stanley Sr. Her work is exhibited throughout British Columbia in places such as Terrace, Huston, Kitwanga, Prince George and Kitimat.
